Soey Milk est née à Séoul, en Corée, et a déménagé aux États-Unis à l'âge de onze ans. Le chemin initial de Milk la menait à devenir ballerine, mais après avoir été initiée à la peinture, elle a immédiatement trouvé une nouvelle passion à poursuivre. Cependant, certaines dimensions du ballet sont restées, car elle était toujours fortement attirée par l'anatomie humaine, qui était une pierre angulaire pour le développement de son style photoréaliste.
